The gorilla is indigenous to Africa. The species ranges throughout the mountains of Zaire, Rwanda, and Uganda and into coastal Gabon and the Zaire river basin.

The undergrowth of the rainforest provides abundant food and cover for groups of four to 30 males and females of various ages. Gorillas feed on shoots, buds and leaves. When traveling, both males and females may carry the young on their backs until the offspring are strong enough to keep up.

Adult males may weight up to 500 pounds and live up to 47 years in captivity.

Information Accuracy
The information for the written description of each animal has been carefully researched by the authors and is believed to be accurate. New scientific observations, however, could make some information out-of-date.
