Museum of American Frontier Culture — American Farmhouse
Staunton, Virginia

#NC-11211-MU - Notecards
Also available in Assortment Pack #AST-820

This 19th century farmhouse was originally located in the Valley of Virginia. It stood in Botetourt County, southwest of the small town of Eagle Rock.

The original part of the log house contained one room on each floor. The rectangular house plan, with end chimney and central front door, reflects the building traditions in Ireland and England. In the late 19th century, a partition was added on both floors to create the two-room plan.

In the late 1840's, a single-room log kitchen was added on the chimney end of the house. This addition included an unfinished attic. At that time, the entire log house was covered with weatherboards and the front and back porches were added.
