Bill Harrah, a native of Greenbrier County, West Virginia, came to the Washington, DC area in 1958 after attending the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. Since that time he has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator. Bill is co-owner of Providence Graphics, a design studio that he and his wife Dianne founded in 1969.

Late in 1992, Bill decided to combine his lifelong love of history, animals and art and started drawing popular Virginia historic buildings and regional wildlife. His rapidly growing portfolio now includes wildlife from around the world and popular pets. Bill’s finely-detailed drawings have been reproduced on limited edition prints, open edition prints and notecards.

Inspiration for many of his drawings comes from the abundance of beautiful birds and small animals seen outside the windows of his Clifton, Virginia studio. His backyard pond is home to several pairs of Canada geese in summer and a stopover for ducks and geese during spring and fall migrations. Egrets and herons also drop by occasionally.

Sharing the same interests, Bill and his wife Dianne frequently travel to zoos, wildlife areas and historic sites to take photographs for reference and gather information. Well-traveled friends and relatives also contribute their personal photographs to use as the basis for drawings.

The name Wolf Run Studio is derived from Wolf Run, a stream which borders the artist’s property. Clifton, Virginia is a rural area located in Fairfax County about one hour from Washington, DC.

Bill Harrah is a member of:
• The Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild
• Artisans United
• The Fairfax Art League
